It’s an exciting but often painful experience. The relationship with the contractor is complex. The amount of communication required can be taxing, and the inevitable miscommunications are always exhausting. At some point the contractor will face limitations that can be hard to explain and, indeed, they may not try to explain them. They may make choices along the way without consulting you. The total cost may balloon. At some point, you may have to choose between getting the kitchen you wanted and keeping a civilized relationship with the contractor.
