In-house lawyers wanting more clout should consider packing up and moving across the pond, judging by a recent survey of legal officers in the U.K.

The GC 350 Study, conducted by the Law Society of England and Wales and sponsored by Lexis Nexis and released May 16, found that, while there are growing pressures on legal departments, in-house lawyers are rising to the occasion and gaining influence and credibility. Most respondents—56 percent—said that the law department has a high profile across their organization. Some 77 percent of respondents indicated that their company expects the legal team to take a proactive approach to protecting the business.
