The former general counsel at an online legal services company has sued his ex-employer, claiming it has failed to pay him stock and wages for his work there.

In a complaint filed on June 11 in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, Justin Lowenthal of Davis, California, asked for the greater of a 7 percent share in Quicklegal Inc. or $280,000. In addition to breach of contract and fiduciary duty, the complaint alleges violations of federal and state fair wages laws. The defendants, in addition to Quicklegal (formerly Lawyers on Demand Inc.), include current general counsel Cyrus Zal, CEO Derek Bluford and Richard Delgado, a member of the company’s board of directors. (Legal technology blogger Robert Ambrogi first reported on the lawsuit.)
