U.S. House Republicans on Wednesday grilled an Obama administration federal regulation overseer about whether his agency is adequately prepared for the possibility of an eleventh-hour rush of new rules at the end of the president’s second term in office.

Howard Shelanski, administrator for the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs who testified at a House Judiciary subcommittee hearing, said that he issued a memo in December 2015 that warned agencies of their need to adhere to certain dates to ensure proper review. Shelanski’s office is the branch of the White House Office of Management and Budget that is charged with reviewing significant federal regulations.
