Dane Drobny can’t resist a good deal on Groupon Inc. As a shopper, general
counsel and senior vice president of the Chicago-based e-commerce discount site, Drobny knows what customers are looking for when they visit: great deals on travel and at local shops and restaurants. He believes that as a general counsel you have to look at more than just the legal side. “You have to be extremely engaged in the operations of the business,” he says. That’s just what he’s been doing since July 2014, when he came on board as GC of Groupon, after spending more than four years as GC and SVP of Sears Holdings and 16 years as a litigator with Winston & Strawn.

Drobny spoke to staff reporter Stephanie Forshee about Groupon’s innovations and the legal issues that come with the e-commerce territory.
