During his 13 years as general counsel of the Swiss fragrance company Firmenich, Dominique Graz spent two years in the U.S. and four in China building his legal and compliance team and learning the business through local markets.

“If you want the legal team to contribute to the company strategy and performance, you need to connect the legal function with the other driving forces of the company,” Graz says in a recent interview. “It is very important to be close to the business, to understand the suppliers’ and clients’ dynamics.”
