This article is a follow-up to “Building a Litigation Risk Profile That Could Save Your Company Money.” In connection with the research that led to that article, I later confirmed a number of disconcerting facts about PACER (the acronym for the Public Access to Court Electronic Records).

PACER is maintained by the federal judiciary, and, just as the courts themselves are open to public visitors, it is also open to electronic visitors. You can access it at PACER.gov (not .com), and open an account. You do not need to be an attorney.
