When it comes to hiring law firms, General Electric Co. is looking for the best. And thanks to a rigorous screening process, that’s typically what the company gets, says Alex Dimitrief, senior vice president and general counsel at GE.

This process, called the GE Select program, has been relied on by GE for outside firm selection for around 20 years, says Dimitrief. “The program runs for four years during which firms are on our list and eligible for certain matters,” he says. “It allows us to develop strong partnerships with [selected] firms. So we have fewer relationships with firms, but the relationships are deeper.”
