A law firm made a silly blunder when it was pitching Maryanne Lavan, the top lawyer at Lockheed Martin. The firm’s lawyers showed up to the meeting with binders that, on the cover, depicted an airplane manufactured by another company. Needless to say, the firm didn’t get the work.

Lavan recounted the story before a crowd of about 150 people in Atlanta on Thursday. They had gathered for an annual dinner hosted by the Georgia Asian Pacific American Bar Association. The event included a panel discussion featuring Lavan and other general counsel at Fortune 500 companies. The discussion was moderated by Michael Wu, the general counsel at Atlanta-based Carter’s Inc.
