In-house lawyers reportedly delayed NBC News’ coverage of the now-infamous “Trump tape,” giving The Washington Post an opening to break the blockbuster story first. Were NBC’s lawyers cautious to a fault?

The footage of Trump from 2005, where he jokes about groping women while en route to a taping with “Access Hollywood” co-host Billy Bush, was discovered on Oct. 3, after “Access Hollywood” producers combed through interviews with Trump. Andrew Lack, the chairman of NBC News, learned about the tape the next day, according to The New York Times.
