Despite the best efforts of brands, counterfeiting is on the rise and counterfeiters seem to be getting smarter. But in-house lawyers said at a recent conference that they aren’t giving up the fight, telling audience members that they have an obligation—even a moral imperative—to continue trying to stomp out counterfeiting rings.

In-house lawyers from such companies as Coach Inc. and The Gap Inc. gathered last week at New York Law School in Manhattan, organized by the law school’s Innovation Center for Law and Technology. During one panel discussion, the moderator asked these in-house lawyers whether they ever feel like anti-counterfeiting is pointless, since for every counterfeit website that is taken down, several more crop up.
