The trial pitting Bio-Rad Laboratories Inc. against its former general counsel, Sanford Wadler, is in full swing, and after two days of testimony from Wadler, some clear lessons emerged for in-house lawyers.

At issue in the trial is Wadler’s 2013 termination from the Bay Area life sciences company. Wadler claims he was fired for reporting possible corruption in Bio-Rad’s China offices. Bio-Rad’s defense team at Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan says that Wadler was fired for incompetence and that investigations of the company’s business dealings in China showed no evidence of wrongdoing.
