After President Donald Trump enacted an executive order on Jan. 27 mandating a ban on travelers from several predominantly Muslim countries, it took less than one week for New York-based tech company Meetup to introduce a new offering on its website that invited users in a thousand cities to “join a movement” opposing the order.

Generally, Meetup’s website is a place where users in various cities can start their own groups such as Seattle Sports Fans or the North Dallas Chick Lit Book and Social Club. The platform has also been used by political organizers.
