April 29 marks the end of the first 100 days of President Donald J. Trump’s presidency and may be a harbinger of the issues that will frame this presidency. During its first 100 days, the Trump administration has pushed an aggressive agenda to shake up Washington political bureaucracy. According to the White House, President Trump has issued 30 executive orders, signed 28 bills into law, and authored an unprecedented 13 Congressional Review Act orders rescinding Obama-era regulations. President Trump has tackled a wide range of issues including job creation, immigration, health care, deregulation and tax reform, with some successes, some changes in course and some notable setbacks.
In this rapidly changing environment, general counsel should spearhead the creation of a cross-functional task force to monitor, assess and prioritize developments for executive management and the board. General Counsel should lead consideration of the legal issues that will affect the company, and, with senior management and the board, develop and implement changes in strategy as regulations, laws and policies develop.
