Compliance will always be a people business. You can have the regulatory framework down, understand the business, and how to put together and manage a program, but to make it work you have to understand the people executing it—how they make decisions, which people will be effective on your team, and how they work together. This year, we started a fitness challenge at our firm. We tried Pilates, Krav Maga, and a SEAL PT class. The SEAL PT class really had an impact. Inadvertently, we learned something about teamwork and group dynamics.

Two or three times a week, we go to the 5:30 am Jack Fit PT class. We’re not morning people. Jack Walston is a former Navy SEAL. He was a SEAL before the seals were in pop culture. Even before Charlie Sheen was in the SEALS movie. Old School. We think he probably could have taken Bin Laden out by himself. He left the Navy in 1995.
