Kevin Feeney, vice president, general counsel and secretary at Air Liquide USA LLC, a subsidiary of Paris-based Air Liquide SA, fondly recalls his participation in round-the-clock deal-making to help seal a major acquisition for the French parent company.

Feeney says helping Air Liquide SA — a producer of medical and industrial gases — acquire Messer Griesheim Industries in 2004 was one of his biggest professional achievements. When Air Liquide SA sought to acquire Messer Griesheim, a German producer of industrial gases, Feeney traveled to Frankfurt, Germany, to assist with the deal. He recalls working 20 hours a day for two weeks and eating bad conference room food as he and his colleagues raced to close the $3.3 billion transaction.
