Officials of 1-year-old, Austin, Texas-based BSG Alliance Corp. say the private company helps customers become “Next Generation Enterprises — On Demand.” To the uninitiated, that means the management-consulting and software company provides research, executive development and consulting services to help businesses become more competitive. BSG specializes in corporate strategy, customer relationships, work forces and information technology, spokeswoman Kaitlin Chase says. What makes its approach different is that clients purchase the services on a subscription basis, rather than at hourly rates or per project, and “on demand, meaning that a client subscribes for more or less service, as needed.” BSG’s chairman and CEO is Steve Papermaster, whose present and past entrepreneurial experiences include serving as chairman, CEO and/or board member for several public and private business and online consulting firms and software providers: Perficient Inc., Vignette Corp., Per Se Technologies, TippingPoint Technologies, LabNow Inc. and Rome Corp. In 2001, President George W. Bush appointed him to the President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology. BSG general counsel Ryan Gravelle previously worked on the legal team of Dell Inc. and as an associate with the Austin office of Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati. Texas Lawyer associate editor Kristine Hughes recently asked questions of the two via e-mail. The discussion appears below, edited for length and style.
