Hiring women and minority lawyers is the first step toward diversifying a firm or legal department, but it’s superficial if those lawyers are then denied the opportunity to advance their careers.

That was the consensus reached among the five panelists involved in the “Hiring Practices of Law Firms & Corporate Legal Departments” discussion April 25 at the 20th annual Pennsylvania Bar Association Minority Attorney Conference.
