Stephen Krawitz has never been licensed to practice in Connecticut. Nevertheless, he's been disbarred by a state judge.

The Connecticut disciplinary case is a small portion for Krawitz, a resident of Westport. Licensed in New York, he focused on personal injury and medical malpractice matters at his Madison Avenue office in Manhattan. He was sentenced in September to four to 12 years in New York state prison for stealing more than $1.9 million from settlements obtained for about 57 of his New York clients, according to the New York County district attorney's office.

Cyrus Vance Jr., district attorney for Manhattan, said Krawitz “pocketed nearly $2 million in misbegotten funds” from clients, including a client who died of cancer without ever getting what was owed to him. Vance also indicated that in addition to mishandling funds in his New York cases, Krawitz settled multiple cases in Florida, New Jersey and Connecticut without having a license to practice in those states.
