Connecticut's newest Supreme Court justice is viewed as a consensus builder with a firm grasp of the law after 23 years with the state attorney general's office.

Those familiar with Gregory D'Auria, who was appointed by Gov. Dannel Malloy and unanimously affirmed by the Legislature last month, paint a picture of a man who brings a thoughtful approach to the bench. While he has never served as a judge, former bosses, friends and colleagues say the 53-year-old jurist attentively listens to all sides before weighing in with his opinion. He's also known for doing his research.

Connecticut Attorney General George Jepsen, who worked with D'Auria for six years, said D'Auria was someone he could depend on regardless of how complex the case.
