An Avon woman has been awarded nearly $1.4 million for burns she suffered while standing near a propane heater at a bible camp in Warren.

Nicole Andrew was 19 when she visited Mountain Lake Bible Camp, run by the Christian Youth Fellowship Inc., in January 2014. Andrew was there to see her boyfriend, then-17-year-old James Lewis Jr., who was working on a truck in a garage on the camp property.

Lewis is the son of camp caretaker James Lewis Sr., who helped the couple find a propane tank to fuel an industrial-style “tophat” heater to keep them warm in the garage. Andrew said she was standing about an arm's length away from the heater when it ignited the back of her flannel shirt, according to court documents and her lawyer.
