The mother of a 5-year-old boy who was accidentally struck and killed by his grandfather while playing in the driveway of his Norwalk house has settled with the insurance carrier for $1.2 million.

Peter Tinnen-Strmiska and his then 13-year-old sister, China, were playing in front of their house in May 2016 when 76-year-old Clyde W. Tinnen sped into the driveway and ran over the boy, according to attorney Donald Papcsy, who represented Peter's mother and the boy's estate.

Norwalk police investigated and found no fault on the part of Tinnen after concluding that the topography of the land coupled with the angle of the setting sun made it difficult for Tinnen to see his grandson in the driveway, Papcsy said. Papcsy's firm, Papcsy Janosov Roche, was asked to do its own investigation at the request of the boy's mother, Kayla Tinnen.
