A Bridgeport attorney who pleaded guilty in February to conspiracy to commit mail and wire fraud for a scheme targeting distressed Connecticut homeowners was suspended from practicing law in the state.

On the recommendation of the Office of Chief Disciplinary Counsel, Hartford Superior Court Judge Antonio Robaina placed Bradford Barneys on interim suspension in April. Attorney disciplinary actions are released the following month.

Federal investigators said Barneys, a Maryland resident who operated Barneys Law Group, conspired with Easton resident Timothy W. Burke to defraud individuals, mortgage lenders and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. The government said Burke made off with about $1 million while Barneys netted $72,096.
