Former state Sen. Eric Coleman and business executives Cheryl Chase and Steve Greenspan are set to be honored next month with awards from the University of Connecticut Law School Alumni Association. Coleman, who retired in January after serving 22 years in the state senate, will receive the 2017 Public Service Award. The first African-American chair of the state Legislature's Judiciary Committee, Coleman represented the 2nd district, comprising parts of Bloomfield, Windsor and Hartford. Coleman also served as deputy president pro tempore of the Senate and 11 years in the Connecticut House of Representatives, where he held a variety of leadership positions, including deputy speaker. He is a 1977 graduate of UConn School of Law and resides in Bloomfield.

Chase, co-president and general counsel of Chase Enterprises will receive the 2017 Distinguished Graduate Award. Chase is active in a host of social and civic causes, serving as a trustee of the Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art and the Connecticut Health Center. She also has been a trustee of the University of Connecticut Law School Foundation. She is a 1978 graduate of the Uconn School of Law and resides in West Hartford. Greenspan, vice president and chief litigation counsel for the United Technologies Corp., will receive the 2017 Distinguished Service Award. He is a trustee of the Bushnell Center for the Performing Arts. Greenspan previously served as a member of the Connecticut Bar Association's board of directors and its president in 2004. He was also a trustee of the University of Connecticut Law School Foundation and president from 2014 to 2017. He is a 1985 graduate of the Uconn School of Law and resides in West Hartford.

The awards will be presented at the UConn Law School Alumni Association Annual Meeting and Awards Dinner on Tuesday, Oct. 17, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at The Aqua Turf Club, 556 Mulberry St., Plantsville.
