Heavyweight Government and Politics Talks Coming to Conn. Universities
Former Connecticut U.S. attorneys Deirdre Daly and Kevin O'Connor will discuss the special counsel investigation of Russian interference with the 2016 presidential election on Oct. 15 at the University of Saint Joseph.

Daly, O'Connor to Appear At University of St. Joseph Former Connecticut U.S. attorneys Deirdre Daly and Kevin O'Connor will discuss the special counsel investigation of Russian interference with the 2016 presidential election and related matters during a forum on Oct. 15 in the Crystal Room of Mercy Hall at the University of Saint Joseph (USJ). Nikos Valance, director of the program in criminal and restorative justice at USJ, will moderate the discussion.
The public is invited to attend this free event beginning at 6:30 p.m. Registration is required.
Daly and O'Connor will be introduced by Margaret Kelley, who was recently appointed state's attorney for the Ansonia-Milford Judicial District.
The attorneys will share perspectives on the Russia investigation covering topics such as the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act warrants, the recusal of U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions and Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein's appointment of former FBI Director and U.S. Attorney Robert Mueller as special counsel. They will also take questions from the audience.
“We welcome the Greater Hartford community to join us as we learn more from two legal experts about the current federal investigation regarding the 2016 presidential election,” said USJ President Rhona Free.
Daly, who works at Stamford law firm Finn Dixon & Herling, is a member of the firm's government and internal investigations and litigation practice groups. She was the state's 51st U.S. attorney and the first woman to be presidentially appointed to lead the office. Earlier in her career, she served for 12 years as a prosecutor and supervisor in the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York.
O'Connor is chief legal officer for Point72, a Stamford-based hedge fund. He joined Point72 in June 2015 from United Technologies Corp., where he served as vice president of global ethics and compliance. Before joining UTC, O'Connor was a partner and chairman of the law firm Bracewell & Giuliani. Previously, he served as U.S. attorney for Connecticut from 2002-08 and as U.S. associate attorney general from 2008-09.
Spicer to Speak At Sacred Heart Sean Spicer will be the next speaker in Sacred Heart University's Distinguished Leaders Series. The event will take place Wednesday, Nov. 28, at 6:30 p.m. in SHU's Martire atrium. The public is invited and copies of Spicer's book, “The Briefing,” will be available for sale. Spicer will sign purchased copies following his talk.
The Distinguished Leaders Series features leaders from a variety of sectors who have made significant business and public service contributions. It is presented and hosted by SHU trustee Katie Burke, who serves as senior strategist and global chief of staff at Edelman.
Before becoming White House press secretary, Spicer built a decadeslong career in Republican politics, including as a House of Representatives communicator, assistant U.S. trade representative, chief strategist of the Republican National Committee, top adviser to presidential campaigns and White House spokesman.
Since leaving the White House, he has traveled the world addressing groups, corporations, forums, schools and associations as an exclusive speaker of the Worldwide Speakers Group. He is a council member of the Gerson Lehrman Group and served as a visiting fellow at Harvard University's Institute of Politics. His book sheds light on the Trump administration's first year as well as the 2016 campaign.
A Rhode Island native and Connecticut College graduate, Spicer also holds a master's degree in national security and strategic studies from the U.S. Naval War College.
