Attorney General-elect William Tong Friday announced the names of six members of his senior legal team.
The announcement follows the news late last year that Margaret Chapple would be Tong's deputy attorney general.
Tong, a former co-chairman of the Legislature's Judiciary Committee, was sworn in Wednesday as the state's new attorney general. He named these lawyers to be among his top brass:
Sandra Arenas, special associate attorney general for constituent and consumer affairs
Arenas has been an assistant attorney general since 1997 and most recently served as a senior lawyer in the state's Consumer Protection Department.
Vanessa Avery, associate attorney general for enforcement, litigation and investigations
Avery joins Tong's team from the U.S. Attorney's Office, District of Connecticut, where she has served as an assistant U.S. attorney in the Civil Division.
Antoria Howard, associate attorney general for management and administration
Howard will continue to lead the office in all matters related to management and administration, a role she has been in since 2013. Howard has served in the Office of the Attorney General since 1997, and previously served as department head for the Employment Rights Department.
Clare Kindall, solicitor general
Kindall has served as an assistant attorney general since 1998. Since 2011, Kindall has led the office's Energy Department in highly complex proceedings, including matters pending before the Public Utilities Regulatory Authority.
Erik Lohr, associate attorney general for legal counsel
Lohr serves as assistant attorney general, heading the Employment Rights Department. Before attending the University of Connecticut Law School, Lohr served in the U.S. Navy aboard a fast-attack nuclear submarine.
Joseph Rubin, assistant deputy attorney general
Rubin most recently served as an associate attorney general and has helped in leading some of the office's largest and most important cases in recent history. Rubin will assist Chapple in the leadership of the office.
In a statement Friday afternoon, Tong called his new staff an “extraordinarily talented team of lawyers.”
“Together, they are among the most experienced and diverse team of attorneys ever to lead the Office of Attorney General,” Tong said.
