The Connecticut Supreme Court has overturned a Superior Court jury’s $4.5 million award to a widow for loss of consortium in a medical malpractice suit, and remanded the case back to Superior Court, where a judge will decide what the new award should be.

In a 6-0 ruling Friday, the state’s high court sided with Hartford Hospital, which had argued that the $4.5 million the jury awarded Marjorie Ashmore for the loss of her husband William far exceeded the amount awarded in economic and noneconomic damages, and therefore should not be allowed to stand.
