Norman Roos Elected President of ACMA
Robinson & Cole business transactions partner Norman H. Roos has been elected president of the American College of Mortgage Attorneys for 2019-20.
Roos was installed during the ACMA's annual meeting Sept. 7 in Monterey, California. Also in attendance were colleagues Candace M. Cunningham, who was appointed co-chair of the ACMA's Title Insurance Committee, and Amanda S. Eckhoff, who was installed as a fellow.
Roos will be responsible for assembling a nominating committee to propose fellows and selecting committee chairs and co-chairs. He also will be a member of the ACMA's executive committee and board of regents. He is a former ACMA secretary, treasurer and Connecticut state chair.
Roose focuses on transactional, regulatory and technology matters in finance and real estate, representing banks and financial services companies, with a focus on mortgage banking. He is also a member of Robinson & Cole's financial services cyber-compliance team.
Cunningham practices commercial real estate finance law, with an emphasis on Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac delegated underwriting and servicing lender financing for apartments, senior housing and affordable housing nationwide. Eckhoff represents institutional and private lenders and borrowers in real estate financing and related matters.
Alderman & Alderman Hires Catherine Spain
Alderman & Alderman has welcomed former Hartford solo practitioner and Catherine Spain as an estate planning and probate attorney.
Spain, a graduate of Yale University and the University of Connecticut School of Law, interned for Judge Alfred V. Covello U.S. District Court in Hartford and clerked at the Connecticut Appellate Court before joining Robinson & Cole. She is admitted to practice in state and federal courts and is a member of the Connecticut Bar Association House of Delegates.
Spain's pro bono work includes work at the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center in West Haven and at the Victim Rights Center of Connecticut.
Alderman & Alderman was founded in 1992 by Linda and Myles Alderman and has represented clients in numerous high-stakes litigation cases.
Carmody Torrance Picks Up Nicholas Caiafa
Nicholas Caiafa of North Haven has joined Carmody Torrance Sandak & Hennessey as an intellectual property associate in the firm's New Haven office.
Caifa focuses on preparation and prosecution of mechanical, electrical and chemical patent applications in medical, mechanical and other technologies. He earned his bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from Central Connecticut State University and his J.D., cum laude, from Quinnipiac University School of Law.
