Lawyers for murder suspect Fotis Dulos rushed to the hospital Tuesday afternoon to get word on his condition, following news that their client had attempted suicide at his Farmington home.

"Now we wait," said defense lawyer Norm Pattis, as his law partner Kevin Smith was en route to the University of Connecticut Health Center.

Pattis did not elaborate on any other aspect of the matter, except to say that news reports of his client's death had been premature. Smith could not be reached by press time.

Tuesday afternoon's events were the latest development in a case that has brought threats and harsh criticism for the attorneys representing Dulos, a Connecticut man charged with murder after his wife's disappearance.

The news of Dulos' alleged attempted suicide comes about six months after another infamous defendant first attempted, then died by apparent suicide, after being charged. The defendant, Jeffrey Epstein, was facing federal sex-trafficking charges, and died in custody.

Dulos' condition was unclear at press time.

Jennifer Watson, spokesperson for the health center, said the hospital would issue a statement on Dulos' condition Tuesday afternoon.

Meanwhile Pattis said Dulos had been rushed to the hospital that morning.

Authorities charged Dulos with the murder of his wife, Jennifer, who disappeared in May 2019 and who has not been found. In a recent interview with the Connecticut Law Tribune, Pattis said he was looking forward to representing his client in court.

"I will not stand idly by and see my client sacrificed and maligned," the attorney said. "I will fight fire with fire. … I'll see to it that he has a fair trial."
