New Haven's Carmody Torrance Sandak & Hennessey has elected Richard L. Street managing partner of the firm, effective Feb. 1.

Street has previously served as assistant managing partner of the firm and litigation practice group leader. He replaces outgoing managing partner Ann Zucker who said Street has her "full confidence and support" as he steps into the role.

"Rick has a strong legal and business mind that makes him particularly well-suited to be managing partner. He is respected and trusted by both clients and members of the firm," Zucker said.

Joining Carmody Torrance as an associate in 1993, Street became a partner in 2001. As a trial lawyer he has extensive experience representing energy companies and other businesses in land use, catastrophic personal injury and construction litigation. He has received numerous awards for his work, including from the Danbury office of the State's Attorney, which recognized his pro bono victim's advocacy efforts.

Street's elevation to managing partner comes on the heels of Carmody Torrance hiring former Superior Court Judge Douglas C. Mintz of Redding as a partner in the the firm's litigation group and a member of the alternative dispute resolution practice.

"I'm excited to begin this new role," Street said of the promotion. "The very talented and dedicated lawyers that we have at Carmody work hard to provide high-quality legal services and deliver high-value results to our clients every day. This focus on dedication to our client's legal needs has led to tremendous opportunities for this firm's continued success, and I'm thrilled to help lead that effort."

Street lives with his family in Sandy Hook, where he is active in the Newtown sports community. He earned his law degree from Duke University School of Law and is a member of the Connecticut, Waterbury and New Haven bar associations, as well as the Connecticut Defense Lawyers Association.
