The closest COVID-19, aka the coronavirus, has officially come to Connecticut was announced Tuesday when New York state officials announced a New Rochelle resident and  lawyer who works at the Midtown Manhattan firm Lewis & Garbuz was the state’s second known person to be afflicted with the disease. On Thursday it was announced that his wife and two of the couple’s children had also been infected, along with a neighbor. Statewide infections in New York also doubled Thursday from 11 to 22.

The New York City Department of Health and Mental Health said late Tuesday that the 50-year-old attorney whose name was not given, worked at Lewis and Garbuz, a trusts and estates law firm with offices at 60 E. 42nd St. that lists six lawyers on its website. Reports of the condition of the lawyer, identified widely as firm partner Lawrence Garbuz, ranged from serious to critical at various points Tuesday.
