The seven-member Criminal Justice Commission late Thursday announced who will take over two of the state's busiest state's attorneys offices.

The commission said that Paul Ferencek, 59, is the new state's attorney for the Stamford-Norwalk Judicial District, replacing Richard Colangelo Jr., who became Connecticut's chief state's attorney on Jan. 30.

The decision followed a 40-minute, closed-door evening session, and all-day interviews Tuesday and Thursday with the candidates.

The commission also selected Joseph Corradino, 56, of Branford, as the new state's attorney for the Fairfield Judicial District in Bridgeport, replacing acting state's attorney Cornelius Kelly.

There are 13 state's attorneys in Connecticut.

On Tuesday, the commission, headed by Associate Connecticut Supreme Court Justice Andrew McDonald, interviewed five candidates for the Fairfield Judicial District via Zoom. In addition to Corradino, those interviewed were current Bridgeport prosecutors C. Robert Satti Jr., Colleen Zingaro and David Applegate, as well as New Haven prosecutor Stacey Miranda.

Then two days later, the commission interviewed the four candidates for the Stamford-Norwalk Judicial District, also via Zoom: Ferencek, Applegate, who interviewed for both posts, and prosecutors Joseph Valdes and Michelle Manning.

Ferencek and Corradino did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
