Senators Josh Hawley and Ted Cruz have now joined the ranks of lawyers who are on the receiving end of calls for discipline or disbarment. As someone who knows a little about lawyer discipline, I get a lot of inquiries as to whether their support for Trump, the “stolen election” narrative or the storming of the Capitol (or maybe only the stormers) should result in bar discipline. I don’t think that will get any traction.

The Capitol takeover, orchestrated by a motley gang of middle-aged white MAGA folks, a few cos-players dressed as shamans and druids, some white nationalists, Nazis and accelerationists trying to foment a race war turned out to be a dud. I suspect that the planners hoped it would be the equivalent of the Reichstag fire, giving the pro-Trump forces, and Trump himself, cover for declaring martial law and vitiating the results of the election. Seal Team Six it wasn’t. All it did was out these folks so that everyone could see what idiots they are and the kind of poison they’d been spewing on Parler.
