Statistics from the Connecticut Judicial Branch from the height of the global health pandemic on Aug. 25, 2020, to eight months later on April 30 provide a glimpse into bottlenecks and movement after no jury trials and fewer gatherings to negotiate settlements.

While the number of backlogged civil cases—which includes housing and small claims—dropped from 83,857 to 82,340, the number of active pending criminal matters skyrocketed from 73,859 to 87,748 during that same eight-month period.
