Connecticut Attorney General William Tong applauded the passage of a bill establishing a civil rights division within his office.

“It’s personal for me and personal for everybody. As an Asian American, we feel like we have a target on our back. It makes you feel like you are being hunted,” said Tong, who is the first Chinese American attorney general in the state. “Now, the resources and the power of the state government will be there to protect people.” Tong was referring to the increase in hate crimes against Asian Americans due to the origins of the coronavirus in China.
