With passage of the Sept. 15 deadline for the General Assembly to adopt its own redistricting plan based on the 2020 decennial census, the Connecticut Constitution assigns this task to a nine-member bipartisan Reapportionment Commission to adopt a plan by Nov. 30.

We advocate that the commission substantially change prior redistricting practices when forming state House districts by showing greater deference to the Town Integrity Principle embodied in the Connecticut Constitution and by justifying any deviance from this principle in drawing legislative district maps.
