Over the left shoulder of Alexandra D. DiPentima, a senior judge on the Appellate Court, is a metronome on a shelf; over her right shoulder hangs a framed medieval musical manuscript. Both items in her recently unveiled painted portrait reflect her passion for music, not only the law.

In the portrait, unveiled Oct. 6, DiPentima in her judicial robes gazes serenely and knowingly at the viewer. The portrait is by Jeanne Ciravolo, a Connecticut artist who has carved a niche in judicial portraiture. DiPentima’s portrait joins three other portraits by Ciravolo in the Appellate Court courtroom.
