An apparent $200 million fee award shows that Kirkland & Ellis’ strategic decision to “double down” on contingency fee cases is paying off in a big way.

Kirkland has been representing global chemicals company Huntsman Corp. in a dispute with industry rival Albemarle for several years. And on Nov. 5, Huntsman announced that it had reached an agreement with Albemarle over payment of a recent nine-figure arbitration award.
