A lawsuit stemming from a rear-end crash in Glastonbury last year settled out of court for $100,000, which the victim's attorney says is about half as much as the case would be worth if the driver who caused the crash had adequate insurance.

"Unfortunately, there was only $100,000 in coverage with Safeco," Andrew Bottinick of Carter Mario Law Firm said Wednesday. "The shame is this is a case that would have been worth significantly more, but you run into this all the time."

Attorneys often can't collect enough to make their clients whole when motor vehicle crashes occur involving people who are underinsured or uninsured, he said.
