The family of a 22-year-old man who was in a vegetative state after a car crash is suing the driver and the restaurant that allegedly served him alcohol, under the state’s Dram Shop Act, which holds bars liable for damages caused by intoxicated patrons.

In June 2020, Saba Surguladze, who was 20, was driving a gray BMW at a high speed in Stamford when he lost control and crashed into a utility pole, according to the suit. Emergency responders had to cut the roof and passenger door to remove his passenger, 22-year-old Miguel Machado-Echavarria.
