A former surgical fellow has sued Yale University in Connecticut District Court over alleged gender bias. The case was brought by Garrison Levin-Epstein Fitzgerald & Pirrotti on behalf of Dr. Shamini Parameswaran, who contends she experienced gender discrimination and retaliation while participating in Yale's six-year cardiothoracic surgical residency program.

Parameswaran asserts male fellows were given more surgical time and that she was placed on academic probation and subjected to other disciplinary measures after complaining to administrators. She names Yale University and its associated health centers in the complaint.
