The Connecticut Appellate Court recently upheld summary judgment orders in favor of a Westport middle school in a case in which two students claim officials failed to properly investigate bullying complaints and that they were retaliated against with suspensions.

Coleytown Middle School students and their parents—under the pseudonyms John, Jane, and Jack Doe 1 and 2—sought to recover damages from Westport, its board of education, and school administrators for their alleged negligence in handling the reports in order to comply with a bullying prevention and intervention policy. Both students claimed that they were bullied for years, leading up to an incident in which they were both allegedly attacked by four students during gym class in March 2016, according to the appellate court’s 38-page opinion, which was officially released Tuesday.
