The most frequent question I get these days is "what have you been up to?" I don't know whether that's related to my somewhat peripatetic career path or the fact that most of my peers seem to be wrestling with the same eschatological issues I have and hope I have better answers than they do. The best advice I give young lawyers is not to emulate me.

Though I can't pin the date down, it appears that just before I joined the bar, there was a tradition, if not a firm rule, that the courts shut from Memorial Day to Labor Day. Summers were too hot, and buildings to confining, to spend indoors. If that's good enough for SCOTUS, it should be good enough for Connecticut is my policy. Unfortunately, with modern air handling and a huge backlog created by the pandemic, I doubt I'll see anyone ever propose that in my lifetime. Still seems like a good idea though.
