A coalition of trade groups led by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce has sued Attorney General William Tong and the Connecticut Department of Labor to block a new law that it says violates employers’ First and 14th Amendment rights.

The dispute stems from a big win for organized labor, in which lawmakers amended Connecticut General Statute § 31-51q to expand employees’ ability to seek damages from their employers, if employers disciplined or discharged them for exercising their rights under the First Amendment or Article I of the Connecticut Constitution.
