A trial court judge’s financial orders following a judgment to dissolve a couple’s marriage abused their discretion with an excessive award of alimony because pandemic unemployment assistance appeared to bolster the husband’s income, the Connecticut Appellate Court held Tuesday.

The three-judge appellate panel of Chief Judge William H. Bright Jr. and Judges Nina F. Elgo and Flemming L. Norcott Jr. reversed a financial award of $1,500 per month for 10 years to defendant Catherine I. Onyilogwu and remanded for a new trial on financial issues only.
