The U.S. Supreme Court on Thursday rejected Florida’s request to reinstate its controversial law against minors attending drag shows that was struck down by a lower court under the First Amendment right to free speech.

By a 6-3 vote, the court left in place a statewide injunction against Florida’s Protection of Children Act, which states that businesses which let youngsters attend “lewd” drag shows can lose their licenses and face criminal prosecution. Justices Clarence Thomas, Samuel Alito Jr. and Neil Gorsuch would have revived the law.
