As members of Connecticut’s legal profession, we have been shocked and appalled at the prominent role played by many attorneys through the country in formulating, publicizing and litigating what has become known as “The Big Lie” of a supposedly “stolen” 2020 presidential election.

Those attorneys who have violated the criminal law should be held accountable by the federal and state judicial systems. State bar associations are acting upon violations of their respective Codes of Professional Conduct. But apart from the unknown deterrent effect arising from these prosecutions, the overriding question of preventing a reoccurrence in 2024 of these anti-democratic schemes remains uncertain.
