To aid his branch of government, former state Supreme Court Chief Justice William J. Sullivan today dropped his appeal of his 15-day suspension for improperly delaying the release of a controversial court decision-a vain effort to help his expected successor.

Sullivan, in a prepared statement, said he “concluded that it is in the best interest of both the Judicial Branch and my family to finally bring this almost two-year-old matter to an end.”
