There’s a neglected public policy issue buried in the depravity of the case of the 15-year-old runaway girl from Bloomfield who was missing for almost a year before she was recovered from a hidden closet at the home of a 41-year-old dog trainer in West Hartford.

The issue is Connecticut’s refusal to enact a law requiring parental or judicial notification for abortions for minors, a law in force in 35 states. For according to case documents, the Bloomfield girl frequently was having sex with a much older man and, while living with him, underwent an abortion at a local clinic.
