The former Cendant Corp. vice chairman convicted in a massive accounting scandal denied he is hoarding cash to avoid paying more than $3 billion in restitution, according to court papers.

Cendant earlier this month sought an order requiring E. Kirk Shelton to turn over any unspent legal fees before heading to prison. Shelton was sentenced in 2005 to 10 years in prison on conspiracy and fraud charges and ordered to pay $3.27 billion restitution to Cendant.
